영시 작품 2수, 영시집 상재!
1980년대 말과 90년대 초 가끔씩 영시랍시고 영어로 시를 쓴 적이 있다. 그 중에 지금까지 남겨진 시가 세 작품이 있었는데 이번에 그 중 두 수가 아래 영시집에 실렸다. 수록된 제목은 각기 The meaning of love(사랑의 의미)와 Frame of Love(사랑의 불꽃)이다. 이 영시집에는 총 60명의 시인들의 영시가 실렸다. 매 작품의 영시는 한글도 같이 실려 있는데 영시는 시인이 직접 쓴 것도 있고, 한글 시를 영어로 번역한 것도 있다. 나는 애초부터 영어로 쓴 것임을 밝힌다.

The meaning of love
If I could blossom into a single flower within you,
I would leave the most feverish song on land.
I would tie together all of the golden and silver heart and upon your courtyard
there shall be birds singing peaceful songs,
and fill ourselves with the meaning of shining flowers.
Even if my youth will wilt within you like a flower bitten with frost one morning,
My life won't be vain.

Frame of Love
Even if you think of me as a traveler who will stay by your side for a while,
Even if you think of me as a mirage of love that will sparkle for a moment and then disappear,
Even if one day I disappear into a faded photo in your old album,
Even if I am buried in your memory as a former lover on the other side of oblivion,
Even if I disappear into your helpless laughter,
Even if I really disappear into your helpless laughter,
It's something I can't do anything about.
If it is a step of love that carries pain,
After all, all the pain is mine.
But as long as I don't give up love for love's sake,
You will burn in my heart as an undying flame that will never go out.
